What to ask for in your first week with a design subscription

Start with a small win, then build momentum.

The first week with a new designer sets the tone. Teams that get the most out of a subscription do not start with the biggest project. They start with a few well-chosen requests that teach the designer how the brand thinks.

Day one: share the basics

Send your logo files, fonts, colors and two or three examples of work you love. If you have a brand guide, send it. If you do not, say so, and let the designer help shape one.

Day two and three: one small request each

  • A social post using your current messaging.

  • An email header or banner.

  • A one-page summary or slide.

These small pieces reveal how feedback works, how fast turnaround feels, and whether the style matches what you imagined.

Day four: a slightly bigger ask

Once the basics feel right, try a landing page section or a short deck. The designer now knows your taste, so there is far less guessing.

Day five: reflect

Look at what worked and what needed changing. Share that with your designer. A short note about what you liked makes the next request even better.

The goal of week one is not volume. It is a shared taste.
